A Luxury Editorial Engagement Shoot
There is something truly beautiful about the very last light of summer. When the evenings feel long, the colours soften, and the coastline takes on that warm, gentle glow, it becomes the perfect setting for an editorial-style engagement photoshoot. This session felt like the perfect goodbye to summer, with soft tones, relaxed energy, and a couple who embraced the moment wholeheartedly.
They arrived in gorgeous whites and creams, which blended effortlessly with the beach backdrop. The muted sand, the pale sky, and the natural grasses all worked together to create a soft, harmonious palette. Their outfits gave the whole session an elevated, luxury-editorial feel without ever feeling forced. Instead, they looked completely at ease, complementing the tones of the landscape beautifully.

COUPLES PHOTOGRAPHY IN
Northern Ireland
What made this session even more special was that they had never had professional photos taken before. For many couples, that first shoot can feel a little daunting. But these two settled in so quickly, helped along by the relaxed nature of the evening. The fiancé had shared a few reference images from Pinterest beforehand, which gave me a feel for the style she loved—fun, candid moments mixed with a few guided, romantic frames. This allowed me to plan the perfect mix of energy and stillness throughout the shoot.
We started casually, walking through the grassy dunes and letting them get used to moving with each other in front of the camera. As we approached a tall, sweeping sand dune, I suggested they climb to the top. Once they were up there, I shouted for them to play a quick game of catch. She sprinted across the ridge, laughing, while he chased after her, determined to catch up. This simple idea created the most natural, joyful moment—full of movement, connection, and genuine fun. Sometimes, the most spontaneous prompts create the frames couples love the most.
After the high-energy start, we slowed things down with a romantic stroll along the shoreline. Barefoot on the sand, hand in hand, simply enjoying being together. From there, we tucked into the dunes for some intimate shots—cuddled up, looking out at the sea, and taking a few quiet moments to breathe it all in. These still, tender photographs often become favourites because they capture the calm after the excitement, showing the quieter side of their relationship.
I always recommend shooting around sunset for the softest light, especially in summer when the midday sun can feel harsh and unflattering. Even though the sun remained gently hidden behind thin cloud, it gave us the most beautiful even light—ideal for editorial-style images. Soft light brings out the natural tones of the beach and allows the couple to shine without distraction.
By the end of the session, they were completely relaxed and enjoying themselves. We created a lovely mix of fun, candid moments and quiet, romantic portraits, giving them a varied gallery that feels true to who they are. It was the perfect way to capture the end of summer and the beginning of their journey towards marriage.
