Spring Time Family Shoots: NI

I’m a family photographer based in Co Antrim, Northern Ireland. Often I shoot at Belfast parks, to the North Coast where there is plenty of scope.

If you’re having a shoot outdoors in the summer you’ll want it to be as early in the day as possible, to avoid bright sunlight. The images look softer around sunrise or early evening sunset. Sunrise times change throughout the season so it’s a good idea to google it. The plus side to going early, is that you have the whole place to yourselves, as these are often public places.

Choosing a location that is special can be a good option but think ahead of the scope, with more scope you’ll have variety of images to choose from. This is really important.

Lady Dixon park is lovely in early May, with the blossom trees, camellia and rhododendron coming into bloom. Antrim Castle Gardens has lots of daffodils in spring, and roses in July. The White Rocks beach has lot of scope and you can walk down towards the white rocks, it looks good all year around. Mussenden Temple is lovely at sunrise, especially in winter. Coleraine daffodil gardens can also be a nice spot. These places are all easily accessible and most have facilities. I try to avoid dense forests, and go for places with more scope and some open areas.

My style is a mixture of candids and guided imagery, to make you feel comfortable.
