Vows at Dunseverick Castle Ruins
There is something beautifully imperfect about 35mm film photography. The soft grain, subtle colours, and gentle unpredictability create photographs that feel less like images and more like treasured memories. If you’ve been dreaming of an intimate wedding surrounded by wild landscapes, choosing an Ireland elopement photographer who shoots both digital and 35mm analog photography offers the best of both worlds.
This romantic elopement took place at Dunseverick Castle Ruins, one of Northern Ireland’s most secluded and breathtaking locations along the Causeway Coastal Route. Hidden amongst rolling green hills, the historic stone ruins overlook the Atlantic Ocean, offering complete privacy for exchanging vows or simply soaking in the moment together. Unlike many popular viewpoints, Dunseverick feels wonderfully peaceful, allowing couples to experience the landscape without distraction.
What made this particular elopement even more special was photographing it on both digital and 35mm film.

Vows & Multi location Elopement

A Cinematic Elopement at Dunseverick Castle & Hamiltons Seat
The castle itself may only remain in fragments, but those ancient stones tell centuries of stories. Throughout the year, the surrounding grass stays remarkably lush and vibrant, creating an incredible contrast against the rugged cliffs and dramatic skies. It is a location that feels untouched by time, making it perfect for couples seeking a cinematic, adventurous elopement in Northern Ireland.
One of my favourite parts of every Dunseverick elopement is exploring the cliff path towards Hamilton’s Seat. In my opinion, this is the most spectacular cliff walk in Northern Ireland. Towering basalt cliffs rise from the sea, revealing the incredible geological formations that continue from the Giant’s Causeway. Layers of black basalt are broken by rich orange and rust-coloured rock, creating a landscape unlike anywhere else in Ireland. Every bend in the path reveals another breathtaking viewpoint, making it ideal for slow walks, quiet moments together, and those sweeping cinematic photographs that truly capture the scale of the coastline.
Digital photography allows me to react quickly to fleeting moments. During movement or laughter, I can capture a short burst of images, ensuring nothing is missed. Film, however, asks something entirely different of both photographer and couple.

With 35mm film, every frame matters.
There is no endless clicking or checking the back of the camera. Instead, I’m waiting for the exact moment when everything aligns—the movement of the dress, the wind lifting the veil, a glance between the two of you, or a quiet smile shared without words. Then comes a single click of the shutter.
That slower process creates photographs that feel wonderfully intentional.
Film is beautifully nostalgic, with soft grain, gentle colour shifts, and an organic character that simply cannot be replicated digitally. Every roll develops slightly differently, making each gallery completely unique. It’s part of the magic that has made 35mm analog photography so loved by couples wanting timeless wedding photographs.
If you’re considering adding film to your wedding or elopement, I recommend including two or three rolls for most elopement days. Each roll typically captures around 28–36 frames, allowing us to carefully document the most meaningful moments throughout your adventure. Because film cameras can occasionally be temperamental, I always carry two separate 35mm film cameras, ensuring your memories are safely captured throughout the day.
If you’re searching for an Ireland elopement photographer who offers both digital and 35mm analog photography, adding film is one of the most meaningful ways to preserve your story. Years from now, those softly grained negatives won’t simply remind you how your day looked—they’ll remind you exactly how it felt.
